Just the other day I took my shih tzus to the veteran for a parvo injection. Both George and Eve are similar in weight there is only a difference of three pounds, George weighs 14 pounds and Eve 17 lbs. What perplexes me is that they get so charged up leaving to meet their veteran, they love everyone fawning all over them. Chloe went in first.

She turned back out and was well Something unusual then happenned Eve began to vomit and within 5 minutes was vomiting all over the veterinary doctor. Our shih tzu laid down and wouldn't move. We lingered in the hope that her situation would improve rather rapidly. Eve was in a awful state and didnt know what to do, it was like looking at an elephant being shot and losing control of its legs slowly but surely.

When the vet noticed what was around he rushed to his cabinet to get some steroids for our shitzu. Only time would tell whether this would have the desired outcome on the vaccination she had been given. She started to breathe weirdly which bothered us a lot. John then recommented us that we get her to the specialist dog hospital in our area so they could provide her 24/7 care. At this phase we could only plead that everything would work out.

The dog clinic took very good care of her and made sure she got her endovenous drip and oxygen as well. I dont believe the lovely people in the hospital thought our shih tzu dog would succeed but we were positive that it would all turn out for the best. She spent 2 days in the hospital being pumped with drugs which was a bit disappointing as you could tell she was uncomfortable. What happened was she suffered from anaphylactic shock, if you have ever seen someone eat peanuts and is allergic then you know what I am talking about. The good news is that she is making great footsteps forward in her recuperation.

She drinks her water and likes to sleep more than before but I can only imagine this is because the whole incident was so painful for her. Her road to improve has been a tough one but she will be in normal state within a couple of weeks, of that I am 100 per cent sure. It has been a steep learning curve these last few months.

Certain kinds of drugs make this shih tsu breed more likely to react and thats what took place with Eve.I am on a bit of crusade now to make sure people manage to get "full disclosure".It really cost us a lot of bucks we could ill afford to spend however we would do anything for our dog.Others should not have to go through this.
